Ikea Must-Haves

Working in the field of interior design, I daily have the thought of, “ughhhhhh I want that”.

It’s my job to make other people’s homes beautiful. So what does that mean for me? Constant yearning. However being a first time home-owner, realistically, I am going to have an ikea house top to bottom. Every 20-something-year-old knows what I’m talking about right now. And it’s fine! Because, Ikea has come out with some really cool stuff. Obviously not a place to find unique or high quality scores, but a place that is great for basics and staple items that will contribute to the layers in your home.

My top 3 from this list? The rug, that is $99. You honestly can’t top that. The chandelier is another favourite as it’s perfect for a quaint romantic bedroom or an ensuite bathroom, and is $49! Finally, I love the bench (ikea has it used as a media unit) but I would DIY a cushion for the top and use it in my mudroom or by the front door! I also can’t NOT mention the tray stand which is a piece that there is always a spot for, to put plants, books, or candles on. It also comes in gray and pink, so I will probably be purchasing one for every room in my home!

Don’t live near an ikea,

  1. Hi Elise. Just discovered your website! I was lucky enough to visit IKEA in Germany recently (I live in South Africa and we don't have IKEA here). I couldn't agree with you more! Their furniture is so versatile and after looking for the perfect bedside table EVERYWHERE I finally found one at IKEA Hamburg from the Hemnes range. I was also lucky enough to be able to bring with the Digitet curtain wires. They are so reasonably priced and look elegant and understated in any room.
Will definitely check out your site again!

  2. Hi Jayla,

You must visit an IKEA asap! It's a life changing experience. I may be a little dramatic, but it's worth the trip for some good super affordable finds 🙂

  3. Hi Anza,

Thank you for reading all the way from South Africa! I'm so sorry to hear you don't have an ikea (95% of the items in my home are from there!). I haven't heard of those curtain wires; I'm going to look them up right now!

Thank you so much for visiting 🙂

  4. Ikea has a TON of practical finds. I always pop in and buy several packs of AA and AAA batteries whenever I'm in the area.
We have the Hemnes series in our bedroom for dressers, but I couldn't get with the idea of those tiny nightstands for $99 each! Instead we bought the small, 3-drawer Malm dressers and they work perfectly with TONS of storage.
I actually just got rid of that very same rug. We'd had it for four years and it was started to unravel on the ends.
